Successful completion of Rainwater Harvesting System Global Grant Project
Our Global Grant project providing rainwater harvesting system to 10 public and aided schools in Chennai, in partnership with Rotary Club of Lake Spivey Clayton County, USA was successfully completed and a meeting to mark the completion of the project was organised at Hotel Savera on 26 October 2021. District Governor Rtn. J Sridhar was the chief guest at the function and he appreciated the work done by our Club. Water is such a precious thing for human survival, our District has embarked on project under 'Water Mission', he added. The rainwater harvesting facilities provided to the schools will be maintained for a period of 4 years and MoU with each of the schools was signed and exchanged at the function (in the pic). The project approved by TRF in August 2020 was delayed due to restrictions created by pandemic and was finally completed this month (October 2021). The project will harvest 17400 kilo liter of rainwater in these schools which is equivalent to harvesting rainwater in 850 individual homes. As Southerners, we are proud of this project and its our small contribution to help mitigate the water woes of Chennai. As someone at the meeting commented, 'Southerners on a mission, expect more from them'.
RWH System presented to Govt Girls Higer Secondary school, Ambattur
Today, 11 March 2021, our Club handed over the completed rainwater harvesting facilities to Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Hr. Sec. School, Ambattur, containing 11 recharge wells. This is our global grant project and the function held today at the school was attended by our Club President Rtn Sujeesh, Rtn Paddy Sharma of RC of Lake Spivey Clayton County, USA, our interenational partner Club in this project, Rtn. Sharma, Ann Sukanya Sriram who was the guest of honour, Rtn Sriram, Rtn. Renjith, Rtn Magdoom, Rtn Jayaraman, Rtn MC Srikanth and Rtn. Sumeer Sapru President of RC of Nolambur. One of the students presented on the importance and usefulness of RWH. Chief guest Rtn. Paddy Sharma spoke well in Tamil and inspired the girl students and the teachers. The teachers of the school assured that they along with students will maintain the RWH facilities provided to them.
Global Grant Project launched. 10 public schools get rainwater harvesting facility
Today, 16 October 2020, our Club launched the global grant project to provide rainwater harvesting system in 10 public schools in Chennai. This is done in partnership with Rotary Club of Lake Spivey Clayton County, USA. Bhoomi puja and symbolic digging of earth was held today at Rani Meiyyammai Hr. Secondary School, Mandaveli, one of the beneficiary schools of this project. Our President Elect Rtn. Renjit Joseph was the chief guest and other members Sridhar Sriraman, Sibi Rajan, M C Srikanth and Magdoom participated. This project will benefit more than 10000 students studying in these 10 schools and will conserve more than 17,000 kilo liters of water every year. This launch was preceded by virtual launch yesterday (15 October) over Zoom and members of Rotary Club of Lake Spivey Clayton County also participated. Our District Governor S Muthu Palaniappan was the chief guest and Governor of District 6900, USA. Rtn. Kirk Driskell was the guest of honour.
A friendly chat, truly international
In a true international friendship, today 7 August, our Club Chairman for Polio Plus Programme, Rtn. Elumperiyar and Past President Rtn. Magdoom Mohamed had a video call with Rtn. Kirk Driksell, Governor of District 6900. Rtn. Paddy Sharma of Rotary Club of Lake Spivey Clayton County of District 6900 initiated the call. Dr. Senthilprabhu, the doctor from Government Children Hospital, Egmore joined the disussion. They exchanged wide range of issues including pulse polio immunisation programme, response to covid-19 pandemic and on our recent global grant project to provide rainwater harvesting system in 10 public schools in Chennai. Governor Kirk appreciated the frienship our Club has with his District 6900.

Our annette Niyam Jhabakh, daughter of Chethan Jhabakh, studying in Lille, France attended a Rotary meeting of Rotary Club Lille Sud, France on 5th December, and received a flag from the Club President. A proud moment for our Club, annette attending a Rotary meeting in a foreign country.
